San Josemari\u0301a quiso ir en peregrinacio\u0301n a Tierra Santa y son\u0303o\u0301 con la puesta en marcha alli\u0301 de varias iniciativas aposto\u0301licas en beneficio de la Iglesia. Sin embargo, por diversas circunstancias, no pudo ver cumplidos esos deseos. Su primer sucesor, el beato A\u0301lvaro del Portillo, hizo realidad aquel antiguo anhelo, recorriendo los Santos Lugares del 14 al 22 de marzo de 1994. En la madrugada del di\u0301a 23, tan solo unas horas despue\u0301s de haber regresado a Roma, Dios lo llamo\u0301 a su presencia.
